Glen Willow's Danny Boy
Black Harlequin Mini Lop Buck
Danny Boy is a welcome addition to my tri-color adventre. He is a fully pedigreed Mini Lop. I was unable to get a tricolored holland lop, but a breeder friend has these wonderful tri-colored mini lops, so I decided to make my own using Danny Boy. At the time I went to her place I was not really looking for a tri-colored mini lop, but when I spotted this tiny fellow and saw his type that looked so much like a holland I had to have him! He was by far the smallest mini lop she had of all the many tricolored juniors of his age. His type and color could not have been more perfect to start my tricolored program. I liked the fact that he was predominantly black. Most of the tricolors I see have very little black spotting on them. Danny Boy is wide and quite short. He has a wide head but doesn't have the bluntness and curvature to his head which I will need to improve on. His ears are thick but a little long. He has a very nice crown.
Danny Boy loves to "sit up" like a holland, but does evidently have a "low head mount." He doesn't quite have a holland lop body and looks like a mini-lop when you pose him like one, however he is, in my opinion, a great starter to producing some nice colored hollands. He is also very friendly and calm, which is a bonus. He will most likely be for sale as soon as I have enough babies from him for a good foundation. I am extremely pleased with his first litter with my broken orange Holland Lop doe, Apricot. They have made some beautiful babies; 3 harlequins and 5 tricolors who have the most beautiful markings!! I love the eveness of the spotting and there are lots of black spots on these guys. Also the intensity of color is very nice!
Tri Colored Mini Lops are extremely rare, more so than Hollands, so he would make a nice addition to someone wanting to produce tri-colored mini lops. I might just keep him, get a tri-colored mini-lop doe, and go for it! : )
